How We Work

Edwards Deming, a Management Consultant who established the principles of quality control in post World War II Japan, said about 90% of the problems in organizations are general problems (bad systems) – only 10% are specific problems with people. Many managers misinterpret such data, supposing that if they then correct the structure and systems (programmes), the problems with people (programmers) will go away. However, a total turnaround can only be achieved through resolving the 10% people problems first and the remaining 90% systems problems will be eventually and almost automatically solved effortlessly. This is because people are the programmers, and they use systems and structures as the outward expressions of their own character and competence. To improve the programme, work first on the programmer - people produce the strategies, structures, systems, and styles of the organisation. ‘These are the arms and hands of the minds and hearts of people’.(Covey).

Based on this knowledge, HCT aims at helping people/organizations solve difficult challenges by facilitating consistent, high-quality, action-oriented paradigm-shifting programmes for our clients; and then support the changes with a trained in-house team.

In doing so, our approach is to:
  • Conduct In-house (In-plant) trainings and workshops
  • Conduct Open (Public) trainings and workshops
  • Design specialized programmes to address specific issues
  • Mentor individuals and organisations

Our Unique Methodology

HAGENS Creative Technologies Ltd. has the local specialists of the Technology of Participation (ToP) methodology and unique process skills which are vital to the achievement of our objective.

The Technology of Participation (ToP) is a methodology for converting participative management/leadership theory into practice in the workplace or society. It is a comprehensive system of facilitation methods that engages the creativity and commitment of a group in authentic dialogue, consensus-based decision making, problem-solving, strategic thinking and planning, research and action planning. ToP is based on a model of human behaviour that cuts across people and cultures and Imaginal education/learning methodd that aim to change behaviour by changing an individual's "image" of who they are and what is important to them.

Based on a proven set of tools and principles, ToP methods hold the values of participation, creativity, teamwork, action and profound respect. Patterns of engagement based on these values can help any group of people, whether formal or non-formal groups and teams work creatively, minimise conflicts, and accomplish more together than individuals working alone. The methods also have successful application in the design of long-term, Participatory Strategic Plans, Articulation of Values, among others.

A company will get nowhere if all the thinking is left to management. Everybody in the company must contribute, and for the lower level employees their contribution must be more than just manual labour. We insist that all of our employees contribute their minds… after all, who could tell us better how to structure the work than the people doing it - Akio Morita, CEO, SONY
